Concave rib marked "Cogswell & Harrison Ltd. 111 New Bond Street & 226 Strand - London", choke cylinder & 1/8, extractor, light round receiver, hammer locks with springs set back, engraved with arabesques, lock plates each marked "Purdey" (name "James Purdey & Sons" first introduced in 1877), case bottom "Purdey's Patent" (double barrel hook lock), upper lever "Patent" (W. Scott Spindel), receding dolphin-shaped hammers, double trigger, walnut stock, straight grip, blended Stock end 35.5 cm, forearm with wedge lock, empty silver stock monogram plate, BJ 1872 as No. 1 of a pair, London nitro proofing on the steel barrels later renewed at Cogswell & Harrison - London, modernly reworked, condition 3.
